Hurricane Helene Updates
We are blessed that all of our members are safe although some had damage to their homes and/or businesses. God is Good! Or church suffered major damage while our parsonage and fellowship hall sustained minor damage. We are currently holding church services in the fellowship hall and Sunday school in the parsonage.
God has blessed us through the kindness of many within our community and across the nation. As our church members struggled to meet needs within their communities and their families, volunteers brought supplies and helped begin cleaning out the church. They carried pews and furniture outside, shoveled mud from the basement classrooms, pulled up carpet, and cleared the church parking lot of several feet of mud.
Our church family from across the nation have donated items to help us resume services such as Sunday school supplies, hymn books, and built a walkway from the parsonage to the fellowship hall to make the walk easier for our elderly members. We are grateful to our brothers and sisters in Christ for all their prayers, support, and time volunteering to help us recover.
Many have reached out asking how they can help. If you would like to donate to Covy Rock FWB Church's Rebuild Fund, you can do so through one of the following methods:
- https://give.tithe.ly/my-church (search for Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church)
- Check payable to Covy Rock FWB Curch and mailed to PO Box 162, Burnsville, NC 28740
May God bless all of you who have helped, donated, or prayed for our church family here at Covy Rock. Please continue to pray for us as we, like many others in Western North Carolina, navigate the long road to recovery.
Also pray for other churches in our community also damaged by Hurricane Helene.
November 11, 2024 - Update
Work is progressing on the church! God it good!
-
Everything has been demolished and removed from inside the church and classrooms. The next process is to have the church cleaned and sanitized to kill any mold and keep it from regrowing.
-
The large tile that carries a creek beneath the parking lot to the river and also drains the parking lot has been partially unblocked and water is flowing through it now.
-
The parsonage has been cleaned and converted into an "Education Building" where Sunday school classes are being held. It is tight quarters for all the classes and children but we are thankful to have it!
-
The fellowship hall has been cleaned and we now have power, water, and heat back. Sunday morning services are being held in the fellowship hall. Sunday evening services are being held on the church's Facebook page via Livestream.
Thank you to all who have helped us get this far, for the donations, Sunday school supplies, food, time, literature, hymnals, and so much more. May God richly bless you for your kindness and love during this time.
